Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a Masterpiece

| |

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of my favorite comedies.  The fun-filled movie starred John Candy who played Del Griffith and Steve Martin who played Neal Page.

John Candy was perfect for this role as he played a cheerful, fun-loving, and accident-prone shower curtain ring salesman. Both John Candy and Steve Martin are two guys trying to get rides home.  It takes all different types of transportation to reach their destination.

John Candy spends most of his time driving Steve Martin crazy.  You get quite a bit of swearing in this movie and John Candy really keeps the laughs coming.  This slapstick comedy had both masters at the top of their game!

I’ll never forget how exciting it was when filming took place here in South Dayton, NY  for the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles at the depot and snow machines were brought in to make it look like winter in a small Nebraska town.  The scenes were shot on the New York & Lake Erie and Buffalo Southern railroads in New York State. This was the station where movie stars John Candy and Steve Martin boarded the train.

Fun Fact: Many of the highway scenes were actually filmed on a stretch of (at the time) unopened highway (US 219) that runs between Buffalo and Springville, New York.

This hilarious movie is one the best knee-slappers of the 80′s and I highly recommend you check this film out today!
